Nancy Dunsey, LCPC

From a young age, I knew I wanted to help others. After exploring various careers, I initially pursued a career as a middle school educator.  For sixteen years, I taught adolescents who simply did not do well naturally in school - either academically or socially.  Spending  that time with them, I learned more than I taught.  I learned what people really need is simply the permission to be who they are, not  be changed into something or someone else.  I learned the diversity of the human spirit and the resiliency of the human being.  I found myself in a flow with my students of no longer being  satisfied with simply surviving.  Collectively we taught each other to be dedicated to thriving and flourishing.  That training laid the groundwork for my next career; mental health therapist and wellness counselor.

I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity International University.  My training includes a variety of evidence based approaches to advance recovery from trauma while identifying and nurturing the health and well-being that always co-exists.  This approach has proven effectiveness for sustained well-being. I have experience with those recovering from  physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual abuse.  Additionally, I have experience working with those individuals who have chosen coping skills in response to trauma  that have resulted in various addictions (substances, food, relationship, work).

I believe in the right of all human beings to live in peace and harmony with themselves and the world around them. I collaborate with my clients to address all domains of wellness - body, mind, spirit, emotions and connections to each other and the world- with optimal functioning as the goal.

I have had the privilege to co-exist with people from other cultures in their land.  The communal belief they held infected me with communal understanding of existing together.  A very wise tribal leader , Chief Mutato, from Botswana taught me that  when one person in a community hurts the entire community suffers and when one person recovers and heals the entire community increases in well being.  It is precisely this belief that informs the wellness model I choose to inform the work my clients and I do together.

At Dunsey Wellness and Therapy, we treat the wellbeing of the whole person.

  • Mind

  • Body

  • Spirit

  • Emotions

  • Connections

We believe that when one of us is hurting we all are hurting, and when one of us heals we all heal.

Dunsey Wellness and Therapy supports the right of all human beings to live in optimal wellbeing.  We work with intention to eliminate barriers to wellness.

"People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, 'Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.' I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds."
